Psychological Mechanisms of Emotional and Physical Violence: Federico Fellini’s Film La Strada

NEWS

The film screening was held as part of the nationwide campaign “16 Days Against Violence”.

The curator session was conducted by Associate Professor of the Department of Administrative Law and Process of the Educational and Scientific Institute for Training Specialists in Preventive Activity Units of the National Police University, Police Lieutenant Colonel Ruslan Valieiev.

Federico Fellini’s film La Strada reveals the psychological mechanisms of emotional and physical violence, as well as the issues of human dignity and vulnerability in the context of post-war society. The image of the main heroine, who experiences cruel treatment yet strives to preserve her inner freedom, became a basis for analyzing modern manifestations of domestic and psychological violence.

The participants of the event—university cadets—actively discussed the artistic methods used in the film, related what they saw to contemporary realities, and analyzed possible actions of law enforcement officers when responding to different forms of violence. Special attention was given to the symbolic connection between the film’s title and the activities of the international organization La Strada, which works to combat human trafficking and protect the rights of women and children.

Such events contribute to the formation of a humanistic worldview among future police officers, foster empathy for victims of violence, and strengthen their professional readiness to effectively counteract human rights violations.
