«Analytical tools for identification of telephone subscriber numbers»: lesson on criminal analysis at DSUIA

The event was attended by second-year cadets of the Faculty of Training Specialists for Criminal Police Units of the National Police of Ukraine of Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs.

The lesson was conducted by police lieutenant Vladyslav Syzonenko, inspector of the operational monitoring department of the Criminal Analysis Directorate of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Zaporizhzhia Oblast and senior police lieutenant Vladyslava Tsyba, senior inspector for special assignments of the operational monitoring department of the Criminal Analysis Directorate of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

Experts paid attention to modern analytical tools and approaches that are used for identification of mobile communication subscriber numbers in the activity of criminal analysis units. The role of telephone number as a key digital identifier was considered, as well as the significance of combining data of SIM-cards and IMEI of mobile devices for establishing connections, analysis of behavioural signs and formation of analytical hypotheses.

Separate attention was focused on review of open information resources, online platforms, messengers and specialized services that can be used for analytical purposes. Possibilities of comprehensive use of such tools for obtaining reference information, preliminary identification of subscribers, detection of digital traces and clarification of social role or functional purpose of telephone numbers were demonstrated.

Emphasis was placed on the use of departmental information systems of the National Police of Ukraine and it was underlined that combining data from open sources and official records ensures increasing the substantiation of analytical conclusions, contributes to making balanced management decisions and increases the effectiveness of analytical work in general.
