Elective Classes with Experts: Training Sessions for DDUVS Cadets

The events were organized by Professor of the Department of Criminal Procedure of the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs, Police Major Viktoriia Rohalska.

The series of classes was held at the university’s training grounds with the aim of deepening the knowledge of cadets of the Faculty for Training Specialists for Pre-Trial Investigation Bodies of the National Police of Ukraine in the disciplines of the criminal procedure cycle.

At the “Courtroom” training ground, a lecture-based elective class on the topic “Completion of Pre-Trial Investigation” was organized. The session was conducted with the participation of the Head of the Department of Criminal Procedure and Criminal Law Disciplines of the Poltava Law Institute of Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, Doctor of Law, Professor Ivan Titko.

Cadets learned about the forms of completion of a pre-trial investigation, with a focus on aspects such as submitting an indictment to court and closing criminal proceedings. They also discussed the procedure for disclosing materials of criminal proceedings and the calculation of pre-trial investigation time limits, taking into account the case law of the Supreme Court..

Another elective class was devoted to the specifics of conducting certain investigative (search) actions under martial law. In the training location “Investigative and Forensic Training Ground,” cadets analyzed real interrogations conducted by investigators of the National Police of Ukraine with witnesses of war crimes, using the procedural interview methodology and taking into account the requirements of Article 615 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine “Special Regime of Criminal Proceedings under Martial Law.”

In addition, cadets learned more about procedural interviewing and the specifics of applying this methodology during the investigation of war crimes.
