Introduction to OSINT: Students of the O. Hostishchev Dnipro Lyceum of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Learn About Open-Source Intelligence

The O. Hostishchev Dnipro Lyceum of Security Orientation and National-Patriotic Education of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) hosted its third elective class on the fundamentals of cybersecurity. The session for students was conducted by computer science teacher Mykola Shevchenko.

During the class, lyceum students were introduced to the concept of OSINT as a method of collecting and analyzing information from open sources, as well as to the main areas of its application.

The instructor explained that OSINT is actively used in the activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, in particular during criminal investigations and the collection of evidence, the search for missing persons or offenders. In the field of cybersecurity, this technology is applied to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities.

Special attention was paid to the core principles of OSINT, including the lawful use of information, verification of source credibility, critical thinking and analytical approach to processing the data obtained.

Students also learned about the main OSINT sources, which may include social media, search engines and official registries, mapping services, as well as photo and video materials. Practical examples demonstrated the process of conducting OSINT research and the specifics of applying these methods in the activities of MIA units.

Holding elective classes on the fundamentals of cybersecurity contributes to the development of modern digital thinking, analytical skills and an understanding of the practical importance of information security among lyceum students. The OSINT knowledge gained is important for training future professionals in the fields of security and law enforcement.
