In the city of Dnipro, an event of the cultural and educational project “History in Parallels” was held, dedicated to preserving the memory of students and graduates of higher education institutions who lost their lives defending Ukraine against armed aggression.
The event was held within the framework of the cultural and educational project “History in Parallels,” organized by the Museum of the History of Dnipro, the Dnipro Art Museum, the “DSU” Theater, and the “Virymo” Theater.
From the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs, the meeting was attended by Head of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Work, Police Lieutenant Colonel Nataliia Karnaukh, and Inspector of the Sports Team of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Work, military veteran Viacheslav Panin.
The aim of the project is to honor and preserve the memory of fallen students and graduates of Dnipro higher education institutions who gave their lives in the struggle for the freedom and independence of Ukraine.
The central event was the theatrical performance “Mother Courage and Sniper Liutyi,” whose main character is a prototype of a graduate of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, Oleksandr Melnyk—a researcher of the Second World War who was killed in March 2025 during combat operations as part of the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade “Kholodnyi Yar” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The performance combines the story of the heroine of Bertolt Brecht’s play Mother Courage with the story of Oleksandr Melnyk who, according to the director’s concept, meet during the modern Russian-Ukrainian war and share their life stories.

As part of the event, a memorial space was created featuring 30 portraits of fallen students and a video installation, contributing to a deeper reflection on their sacrifice.

Such events contribute to preserving historical memory, fostering patriotic values among young people, and honoring the contribution of Ukraine’s defenders to the struggle for state sovereignty.
