On January 27, 2026, during the detention of a suspect wanted for committing a murder, the individual opened targeted fire on law enforcement officers, as a result of which the following were killed:
Commander of Platoon No. 1 (rapid response) of the Special Purpose Police Company of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Cherkasy Region, combat veteran, Police Major Serhii Safronov.
Deputy Commander of the Special Purpose Police Company of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Cherkasy Region, combat veteran, Police Major Oleksandr Florinskyi.
Community Police Officer of the Community Interaction Sector of the Prevention Department of the Cherkasy District Police Department, combat veteran, Police Major Volodymyr Boiko.
Inspector of Platoon No. 1 (rapid response) of the Special Purpose Police Company of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Cherkasy Region, Senior Police Lieutenant Denys Polovynka.
Denys Polovynka was a 2023 graduate of the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs (Faculty for Training Specialists for Criminal Police Units of the National Police of Ukraine).
Colleagues, classmates, and loved ones remember him as a highly qualified law enforcement officer, decisive and composed in extreme situations, ready to take responsibility, as a sincere and reliable comrade for whom honor, justice, and support for his brothers-in-arms were not just words, but daily actions.
