Domestic Violence: a Binary Class for DSUIA Cadets

The event was organized by the Department of Administrative Law and Procedure with the participation of the Division for the Organization of Advanced Training and Specialization of the Institute of Postgraduate Education and Distance Learning of the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs within the framework of studying the discipline “Prevention and Counteraction to Domestic Violence.”

Second-year cadets of the Faculty for Training Specialists for Criminal Police Units of the National Police of Ukraine took part in the class. The speakers were Senior Lecturer of the Department of Administrative Law and Procedure Mykola Repan and Inspector of Platoon 1 of Company 1 of Battalion 2 of Regiment 2 of the Patrol Police in Kryvyi Rih of the Patrol Police Department in Dnipropetrovsk Region, Police Senior Lieutenant Danyil Dorokhov.

The event was held to deepen the knowledge of future law enforcement officers regarding response mechanisms, prevention, and counteraction to domestic violence. The cadets gained new knowledge about the tasks and functions of the patrol police when receiving reports of domestic violence incidents.

Danyil Dorokhov shared professional skills, in particular on how to distinguish a family conflict from domestic violence. Special attention was paid to communication skills with family members and to police action algorithms when receiving reports of domestic violence.

The class concluded with the cadets developing algorithms for stopping domestic violence and eliminating threats to the life and health of both victims and police officers.

The experience gained enables future police officers to improve their skills in resolving specific situations in practical activities.
