Pre-Medical Aid in Cases of Epilepsy: Practical Training for DSUIA Cadets

NEWS

During the session, cadets learned to recognize the characteristic signs of an epileptic seizure and practiced the algorithm for providing assistance to a victim before the arrival of medical personnel.

The training was organized by the Department of Criminalistics and Pre-Medical Training for third-year cadets of the Faculty for Training Specialists for Pre-Trial Investigation Units of the National Police of Ukraine.

Сadets familiarized themselves with the nature of epilepsy, its causes, and manifestations as a chronic neurological disorder. Special attention was paid to the procedure for providing pre-medical aid during an epileptic seizure depending on its severity and the risk of complications.

Cadets reinforced their theoretical knowledge through practical exercises by completing situational tasks. In particular, they simulated the actions of a police unit in the event of an epileptic seizure: providing assistance during convulsions, calling an ambulance team, monitoring vital functions after the restoration of consciousness, placing the person in a stable lateral position, and other necessary measures.

The acquired skills enable cadets to respond promptly and correctly in real situations, provide effective first aid, and support victims until medical personnel arrive, which is an important component of the professional training of future law enforcement officers.
