On February 23, 2026, with the support of the Department for the Organization of Scientific Activity, a training on the art of public speaking was held at DSUIA for representatives of the Scientific Society of Higher Education Students and pupils of the Dnipro Lyceum named after O. Hostishchev of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
At the beginning of the event, Senior Researcher of the Scientific Work Organization Unit Olena Shkurko noted that every student or pupil has had to speak in front of an audience, and therefore the ability—or inability—to deliver public speeches plays an important role both in their lives and in the educational process, as it affects how the speaker is perceived by others and how they are evaluated.
Ilona Buiakova, Secretary of the Scientific Society and cadet of group DR-344, spoke to the participants about the importance of the first impression during a speech and provided advice on how to make it positive. Yuliia Tolmachova, Head of the Scientific Society of Higher Education Students and cadet of group DR-343, prepared a report on nonverbal means of communication with the audience, their functions, and their use for successfully influencing listeners.
Deputy Head of the Scientific Society Mariia Sydorenko, a higher education student of group YuD-341, informed the participants about the verbal means of influence available to a speaker, noting that research may be in-depth, but it becomes persuasive only when presented confidently, in a structured manner, and clearly.
The students and lyceum pupils attending the training had the opportunity not only to listen to reports accompanied by vivid presentations, but also to watch informative videos and complete interesting and useful exercises.
The knowledge and skills gained will be used by young people in their studies and scientific activities, particularly during classes, the defense of term papers and конкурс works, as well as in preparing and delivering speeches at club meetings, scientific and practical conferences, and similar events.
