Representatives of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine spoke about the specifics of specialized units and formations that operate in conditions of chemical, biological or radiological contamination.

The lyceum students met with personnel from the Radiation and Chemical Reconnaissance Unit and the Radiation and Chemical Monitoring and Risk Assessment Unit of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Group of the Special-Purpose Emergency Rescue Detachment of the Main Directorate of the SES of Ukraine in Dnipropetrovsk Region. Among them were Head of the Unit, Senior Lieutenant of the Civil Protection Service Dmytro Irtiuho; chemical rescuer, Sergeant of the Civil Protection Service Krystyna Brovko; and driver-chemist, Private of the Civil Protection Service Radion Saigak.
The speakers described the activities of the detachment, which is involved in carrying out emergency rescue and other urgent operations in non-breathable environments, underground facilities, areas of chemical and radiological contamination, as well as during the elimination of oil and gas well blowouts and sudden structural collapses.

During the meeting, the lyceum students learned about the specifics of sanitary treatment, degassing, decontamination and disinfection procedures, as well as the necessity of mandatory sanitary treatment after completing assignments. The rescuers also shared details of particularly complex operations.
SES representatives demonstrated specialized protective clothing and personal respiratory protective equipment. They also showed how automatic air monitoring detectors work, featuring sound and light alarms that signal when hazardous substances exceed permissible concentration limits.

The speakers emphasized the importance of continuous professional development, modern technical equipment and close cooperation with other units. The knowledge gained helps lyceum students develop a clear understanding of response algorithms in emergency situations, as well as the importance of professional training and discipline.
