At DSUIA, a meeting of higher education students with representatives of the “Istyna” Legal Clinic took place, dedicated to the issues of providing legal assistance to military veterans and other categories of citizens affected by the war.
The event was held with the assistance of the Department of Organization of Scientific Activities of the University.
In the welcoming speech, the Director of the “Istyna” Legal Clinic, Doctor of Law, Professor Volodymyr Shablistyi briefly informed about the purpose of its creation.
The Deputy Director, Head of the Department of Civil Law Disciplines of the ESI of Law and Innovative Education, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor Volodymyr Kiyan and the Head of the Department of Administrative Law Disciplines and Public Administration Iryna Dziuba, who is a member of the clinic’s advisory group, familiarized those present with its activities, noting that the legal clinic provides consultations on various branches of law, in particular regarding the resolution of legal issues of combatants and internally displaced persons; a separate group consists of consultations on requests for assistance to families of prisoners of war, the dead and missing.
Invited guests were present at the event: the Head of the Legal Support Department of the Department of Social Protection of the Population of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration Albina Bezuhla, the Acting Director of the Communal Institution “Center for Social Assistance and Support” of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council Yevhen Tarantsov and the legal adviser of this institution Anna Lavryshcheva, who spoke about the activities of the center and the problems faced by military veterans, people with disabilities, internally displaced persons, etc.
War veterans Artem Formalov and Yevhen Bilych focused the attention of those present on the urgent problems of combatants and expressed hope that the future lawyers present at the meeting would become the driving force of legislative changes that would make it possible to overcome the existing excessive bureaucracy.
The moderator of the event, Senior Researcher of the Department of Organization of Scientific Work Olena Shkurko, noted that today veteran policy is a priority area not only of the state policy of Ukraine, but also of scientific and research activities, which involves studying the needs of veterans and creating sustainable mechanisms for their adaptation, which requires an interdisciplinary approach, legal analysis and the implementation of innovative social services. Olena Shkurko also called on young people to highlight these important issues in their scientific works.


The higher education students present at the meeting had the opportunity to gain useful information regarding the state’s veteran policy, as well as to personally communicate with people who are well versed in the problems of veterans and citizens affected by the war, and who can share their knowledge and experience in the field of providing legal and social assistance, which is important for the professional and civic growth of future lawyers.
