Practical application of English: a supplementary class for DSUIA cadets

NEWS

The event, involving specialists from the Dnipropetrovsk Research Institute of Forensic Expertise of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, was organized by the Department of Language Training within the discipline “Foreign Language for Professional Purposes.”

The program covered key aspects of the topics “Types of Physical Evidence” and “Work of a Forensic Laboratory.”

Cadets of the Faculty for Training Specialists for Pre-Trial Investigation Bodies of the National Police of Ukraine became thoroughly acquainted with the areas of linguistic expertise, in particular semantic analysis, which makes it possible to detect hidden meanings in statements, the presence of threats, calls to violence, or manipulative techniques. Considerable interest was sparked by authorship analysis, which allows identifying the author of a text based on their unique “linguistic profile” – specific vocabulary, grammatical habits, and individual style..

The next location visited was the biological laboratory. Thanks to modern automated systems and high-precision analyzers, specialists demonstrated how genetic material can be extracted even from microscopic or degraded samples, which is essential for personal identification.

Cadets also communicated with the Head of the Department of Automotive and Other Types of Research, Oleksandr Zabuga, who spoke about the specifics of reconstructing events at the scene of traffic accidents.

In addition, cadets learned about the specifics of psychologists’ work with victims of violence. In this field, professionalism involves a humane approach that requires not only knowledge but also a high level of empathy.

Such events contribute to improving the professional training of future investigators, developing their practical skills in using English in a specialized context, deepening interdisciplinary knowledge, and enhancing their ability to work with modern forensic research methods.
