Cadets of the Center for Primary Professional Training “Police Academy” took part in the event.

The class was conducted by the Head of the Department of Information and Technical Support, polygraph specialist, Candidate of Law, Police Lieutenant Colonel Oleksandr Shcherbyna.

The listeners familiarized themselves with historical methods of detecting lies — from ancient Chinese and Indian practices to modern psychophysiological approaches. Particular attention was paid to the phenomenon of lying as a social phenomenon: its functions, forms and types.
The psychophysiological, verbal and non-verbal signs of lying were examined in detail, as well as the principle of operation of the polygraph as a complex multi-channel system for recording the physiological reactions of the body to relevant stimuli, and the basic principles of the device’s operation were demonstrated.
During the class, the listeners gained an understanding of the profession of polygraph examiner in the National Police of Ukraine, the specifics of the work of these specialists and the possibility of mastering this specialty directly during service in the bodies of the National Police of Ukraine.
In addition, those present were familiarized with the normative legal documents on the use of the polygraph in the activities of the National Police of Ukraine.
Significant attention was paid to the use of the polygraph as an effective tool in the activities of the units of the security and defense sector.

The practical demonstration of the polygraph examiner’s work during the familiarization testing aroused high interest.
Such classes contribute to the formation of critical thinking among police officers, understanding the psychological mechanisms of lying, deepening knowledge in the field of criminology and increasing the level of professional competencies, which help to better recognize manipulations, collect evidence more effectively and ensure higher quality of pretrial investigation.
