In-Depth Look on Domestic Violence at the Ukrainian Forum

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine with the support of the European Union Advisory Mission organized “Domestic Violence: 360 View. Challenges. Opportunities. Actions” forum in terms of “16 Days against Violence” annual action.

Representatives of Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs Larysa Nalyvaiko, vice-rector, Vita Kononets, associate professor at the Department of Administrative Law, Process and Administrative Activity, and Mykola Repan, senior lecturer of the Department, took part in the forum.

According to Kateryna Pavlichenko, deputy minister of internal affairs, domestic violence is a recognized global problem.

“Modern legal doctrine, international law and European conventional inheritance bind the state to establish an efficient system for prevention and combatting domestic violence available for victims of such violence, which aims at protecting their security. Actively partaking in domestic violence combatting policy, the MIA of Ukraine focuses its activity on efficient and consistent response to such actions”, Kateryna Pavlichenko emphasized.

Liudmyla Denisova, authorized person in human rights from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, mentioned that persons committing domestic violence would definitely bear responsibility.

“Our citizens have become more aware on the problem, while police officers have obtained more rights to respond to such facts”, Liudmyla Denisova told.

Participants: Olha Revuk, deputy minister of social policy in European integration, Mykola Kuleba, President’s authorized person in children’s rights, Oleksii Biloshytskyi, the first deputy head of the Department of the Patrol Police of the NPU, and Maryna Bardina, people’s deputy.

According to the specialists, within 10 months of 2019 almost 9,000 prohibitive prescriptions were issued, while within 2020 their total number amounted at almost 36,000.
