DSUIA Conducts an Interactive Training on “Gender-Based Violence During Martial Law: Basic Concepts of CRSV”

During the event, speakers and participants discussed issues of sexual violence related to conflict and gender-based violence.

The event was opened by the first vice-rector of the Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs, Ph.D., Associate Professor Igor MAGDALINA. The welcoming remarks were joined by the event moderator – the assistant to the university rector on gender issues, Doctor of Juridical Sciences, Professor Larisa NALYVAIKO.

The speakers of the event were psychologist of the mobile team of the NGO “MARTIN Club” Sofia GRUBOVA and psychologist of the Center for Assistance to Victims, specialist of the register of psychologists involved in criminal proceedings involving children Yulia SІDORUK. They emphasized that gender-based violence in armed conflict results in severe physical and psychological consequences for victims and witnesses, as well as deeply destabilizing effects on communities and populations as a whole. It was emphasized that the National Police of Ukraine plays a significant role in identifying and documenting cases of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) and assisting victims.

Over 70 participants, including representatives of the university, took part in the training, including senior research fellow of the Educational and Scientific Laboratory for the Study of Legal Status Problems of Internally Displaced Persons and Gender Equality, Ph.D. in Law, Associate Professor Tsagik OGANYAN, Deputy Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law and Innovative Education, Ph.D. in Law, Associate Professor Liliya MEZHEVSKA, Head of the Department of Civil Law Disciplines, Ph.D. in Law, Associate Professor Volodymyr KIYAN, Professor of the Department of Criminal Procedure and Strategic Investigations Victoria ROHALSKA, employees of the Psychological Support Department Hanna MGLYNETS and Taisa PIDHORNA, as well as academic and teaching staff and students.

The event was held in an interactive format, the main goal of which is to familiarize participants with measures to prevent gender-based violence and mechanisms of interaction with state authorities regarding violence, analyze key concepts and socio-psychological characteristics of persons affected by gender-based violence, and establish coordination of state bodies on issues of identifying, investigating, and countering CRSV.
