At the Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs (DSUIA), a training cycle within the regional training program on prevention and counteraction to domestic and gender-based violence is ongoing.
The latest training session focused on “Specifics of Working with Children who Witness Violence.” The event was conducted by senior inspectors from the juvenile prevention department of the preventive activities management of the Main Department of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast: Police Major Natalia Yazan, Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Procedure and Strategic Investigations at DSUIA, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Police Major Alina Harkusha, and Senior Lecturer of the Department of Humanities and Psychology of Police Activities, Police Captain Kateryna Mitchenko. The moderator was the assistant rector of the university on gender issues, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine Larisa Nalyvaiko.
The speakers noted that the main goal is to increase the effectiveness of preventive measures against offenses involving gender discrimination and domestic violence, as well as to introduce modern communication approaches with victims and new tools to overcome negative consequences. They particularly emphasized the specifics of conducting surveys and providing assistance to children who have suffered from domestic violence.
The discussion also involved senior researchers from the Research Laboratory for Studying Legal Status Problems of Internally Displaced Persons and Gender Equality Provision, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor Tsagik Oganesyan, and a specialist from the Psychological Support Department, Vladyslav Bidniak. Around 200 participants, including social service experts from Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, community police officers, and other experts, took part in the event.
Speakers and trainers analyzed situations and developed case management algorithms in practical case formats. Participants were offered an online survey on domestic violence against children.
Upon completion of the training, participants of the professional training will be able to organize activities for working with children affected by domestic violence and acquire skills for providing assistance and protection to victims.
