DSUIA Continues Training for Regional Experts on Prevention and Counteraction to Domestic, Gender-Based Violence

At the Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs (DSUIA), another session of the training series titled “Features of Working with Families Residing in Compact Settlements (Internally Displaced Persons) on Prevention and Counteraction to Violence” was held.

The trainers of the event were Sergiy VYSHNEVSKY, the head of the psychological support department of the personnel department at DSUIA, and Taïsa PIDGORNA, an expert from the department. The moderator was Larisa NALYVAIKO, an assistant to the rector of the state university on gender issues, a Doctor of Law, a professor, and an Honored Lawyer of Ukraine.

Speakers emphasized that there are over 2,500 compact settlement locations for internally displaced persons in Ukraine. They focused on the work directions for social workers and community psychologists regarding violence prevention in the families of internally displaced persons, highlighted key psychological aspects of life difficulties and violence risks in the families of internally displaced persons, and emphasized the peculiarities of living for internally displaced persons in areas of concentration, limitations, and unresolved household, material, and social problems.

Representatives of the university joined the discussions, including senior researchers from the Educational and Scientific Laboratory for Research on the Legal Status Issues of Internally Displaced Persons and Gender Equality Provision, such as Tsagik OGANISYAN, a candidate of Law, and associate professor; senior researcher from the Educational and Scientific Laboratory for Research on Preventive Activities Issues at DSUIA, Irina DROK, a candidate of Law, associate professor, and police major; and the head of the Scientific-Editorial Department, Eugenia KOVALENKO-MARCHENKOVA, a candidate of Economic Sciences and associate professor. Overall, about 200 participants, including social service specialists from Dnipropetrovsk region, community police officers, and other experts, took part in the event.

Speakers and trainers analyzed practical situations and developed a assistance algorithm in the format of practical cases. Additionally, individual aspects of assistance to specific population groups were highlighted.

As a result of the training, participants of the professional training will be able to implement organizational measures regarding working with internally displaced persons affected by domestic violence and acquire skills in providing assistance and protection to victims.
