Officers from the Institute of Law and Training of Specialists for Units of the National Police at DSUIA underwent basic training in providing primary psychosocial support to individuals at risk of suicide.
A two-day training on “Suicide Prevention in Communities” was conducted by certified expert from the Psychological Support Department of the Personnel Department, Yevheniia Hlaholieva. She completed training under the program for training regional trainers implemented within the joint project “Interdepartmental Cooperation in Healthcare” of the Akershus University Hospital (Norway), the Mental Health Center of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and the NGO “Words Help”, with financial support from the government of Norway.
During the two days, officers studied the principles of providing psychological assistance, practiced identifying signs of destructive behavior, and more. As a result of the training, participants received corresponding certificates.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice-Rector of DSUIA, Ihor Kovaliov, who emphasized the importance of the knowledge gained and congratulated the officers on completing the training. Further training sessions are planned with the faculty leaders of the university, as well as ambassadors during the implementation of the “Equal to Equal” principle within the “TitansUA” program.
The developers and supervisors of the suicide prevention program are representatives of the Akershus University Hospital, Johan Sikveland, and Joran M. Rorvik.
