The event was organized by the Department of Criminal Procedure and Strategic Investigations of the university, at the initiative of 3rd-year cadet Kateryna HRYBCHENKO, who graduated from the V Summer School “JurFem” for female law students in 2023.
During the Summer School, the focus was on combating gender discrimination and gender-based violence, and one of the goals was for the graduates to implement their project ideas in their higher education institutions.
Assistant to the Rector for Gender Issues, Doctor of Law, Professor Larisa NALYVAIKO, and Professor of the Department of Criminal Procedure and Strategic Investigations, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor, Police Major Viktoriia ROHALSKA, addressed the participants of the event with opening remarks.
The lecture was attended by 30 cadets and students of the university, who interactively learned from the speaker – a lawyer from “JurFem Support,” an expert and trainer in combating gender-based violence, Irina MORGUN, about sexual violence as a form of gender-based violence; the specifics of responsibility and evidence in such cases; international experience in documenting such crimes, as well as victim-centered approaches during the investigation of sexual violence.
During the lecture, which included training elements, participants solved practical cases, learned about sensitive communication with victims of sexual violence, focused on the peculiarities of procedural actions with such individuals, including interviews using the procedural interview method, and familiarized themselves with the university’s training ground “Child-Friendly Room,” where such actions are conducted.
