Protection of children affected by violence: a practical seminar for DSUIA cadets

The session was conducted for students of the Faculty of Preventive Activities at the training ground “Child-Friendly Crisis Room.”

Cadets practiced the algorithm of actions of police officers with subjects who carry out measures to protect children affected by violence. During the seminar, they familiarized themselves with the work and capabilities of the training ground, discussed psychological and legal aspects of preventing domestic violence and cruel treatment of children.

Participants of the training were offered scenarios for questioning a child by authorized police units – including questioning a child who may have experienced cruel treatment in occupied territory. The trainees were briefed on the conditions of the situational task and assigned roles. Some cadets were in the therapy room during the child’s questioning by a psychologist, while others were in the room for non-visual observation.

The training was organized at the initiative of the lecturer of the Department of Administrative Law, Process, and Administrative Activities, Katerina Shendakova, and associate professor of the department, Karina Pisotska. The head of the juvenile prevention department of the preventive activities management of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk region, Victoria Harkach, was involved in the workshop.

At the end of the seminar, the instructors analyzed the essence, character of actions, and content of mistakes made by the cadets during the training.
