On November 23, the participants of the project group of the project “Simulation Medicine and Scenario-based Learning for Emergency Care”, project number: 101082077-SimS-ERASMUS-EDU-2022-CBHE conducted a training on practicing practical skills in providing emergency pre-medical aid according to the algorithms “First on the Scene”, including joint work with doctors who arrive at the scene where police officers are already providing assistance to victims. It was noted about the importance of transferring information regarding the condition of the victim and actions to provide assistance, coordination of further joint actions with the simultaneous implementation of SBL models. Stanislava Myroniuk, associate professor of the Department of Tactical and Special Training of the Faculty of Training Specialists for Preventive Activity Units demonstrated exactly how police officers should act when providing emergency aid in the situation “First on the Scene”.

During the training, in addition to considering issues regarding the improvement of emergency aid by optimizing the training of people in the category “First on the Scene” and improving continuity in actions at the pre-hospital stage, in accordance with international standards, a discussion was held on the need to implement modern approaches in the training of police officers and the inclusion of psychological support practice in emergency situations into the scenarios.

In view of this, classes on psychological intervention in specific cases and psychological management in critical and special situations were included in the training. This is due to the fact that people who find themselves in extreme circumstances usually work effectively in such conditions, but they are also vulnerable to psychological challenges that arise in them while performing tasks in critical situations. Therefore, these classes are extremely useful for training law enforcement officers: they learn how to behave in specific situations related to anxiety attacks, destabilized psychological states, as well as how to deliver bad news. It was noted that the ability to control one’s own emotions is also important.
