Prevent and Protect: Suicide Prevention Training from Psychologists

NEWS

Specialists from the Department of Psychological Support at Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs conducted a session titled “Police Response Protocol in Cases of Suicide.”

Third- and fourth-year cadets participated in the training, which focused on developing communication skills for future police officers when dealing with individuals exhibiting suicidal tendencies.

The cadets learned about the main causes, types, and methods of suicidal behavior, as well as the common myths surrounding this challenging topic. A lively discussion arose regarding the legality and ethics of police actions during negotiations with a potential suicide victim.

The training provided cadets with both theoretical knowledge on the psychological aspects of police work in such situations and practical skills through targeted exercises. This session equipped them with essential skills that will aid them in emergency situations in their careers, enabling them to respond effectively and offer socio-psychological and legal support to individuals in difficult life circumstances.
