A specialized class on interrogation techniques based on procedural interviewing in wartime conditions was held for third-year cadets of the Faculty of Pre-Trial Investigation Training at Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs.
The online session was conducted by Professor of the Department of Criminal Procedure, Police Major Viktoriia ROGALSKA, and Prosecutor of the Sviatoshyn District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv, Viktoriia LIVOCHKA. Together with the cadets, they examined an innovative interrogation methodology, successfully applied in law enforcement agencies of other countries and aligned with International Criminal Court investigation standards. Special attention was given to war crimes investigations, particularly conflict-related sexual violence.
Future investigators explored the purpose, stages, procedures, and practical applications of the methodology in the work of the prosecutor’s office and pre-trial investigation bodies. During the practical part, cadets practiced conducting victim interviews using procedural interviewing techniques, focusing on establishing psychological rapport, explaining rights, and structuring the interrogation process.
