Mental Health Support: Training for First-Line Specialists at DSUIA

The “Universal Mental Health Training for First-Line Specialists” will be held over the course of two days.

The event was organized at the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs as part of the Ukrainian-Swiss project “Mental Health for Ukraine” (MH4U), which supports the implementation of mental health care reform in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Opening remarks were delivered to the participants by: First Vice-Rector of DSUIA, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Ihor Mahdalina; Advisor to the Rector of DSUIA on Gender Issues, Doctor of Law, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine Larysa Nalyvaiko; and MH4U Regional Coordinator in Dnipro and Dnipropetrovsk region, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv Anna Horodnichenko.

The event was held for inspectors of the “Educational Security Service” of Kamianske, Synelnykove District Departments, and Pavlohrad District Police Department of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk region. The universal training is aimed at increasing the awareness of first-line specialists on the topic of mental health and disorders.

The event’s trainers were: Head of the Psychological Support Department of DSUIA, brainspotting specialist, full member of the National Psychological Association of Ukraine, and full member of the Association of Higher Education Psychologists of Ukraine — Serhii Vyshnevskyi; and art therapist, clinical psychologist, biosuggestive therapist, coach, and author of trainings on CBT exercises, hypnotherapy, art coaching, and See Far CBT methods — Hanna Mhlynets.

During the training, participants learned and practiced skills for identifying, contacting, interacting with, supporting, and referring individuals with various mental disorders or acute conditions. In particular, the training takes into account current circumstances and provides skills for recognizing individuals with PTSD, depression, substance use, panic disorders, and more. Upon completion of the training, each participant will receive a certificate and a workbook with the applied algorithm.
