The event was organized by the International Cooperation Department of DSUIA within the framework of the All-Ukrainian campaign “16 Days Against Violence”.

The lecture in online format was delivered by the course director of the Nordic Centre for Gender in Military Operations of NATO Victor Gupta.

Cadets and students of DSUIA, as well as pupils of Dnipro Lyceum of Security Orientation and National-Patriotic Education named after O. Hostishchev of the Ministry of Internal Affairs took part in the event. Participants received the opportunity to join the professional discussion of an important topic that has direct impact on the security component of modern states and is especially relevant in the conditions of ongoing aggression against Ukraine.

During the lecture were raised issues of conflict-related sexual violence, key factors that cause its spread were defined, as well as modern methods of countering this phenomenon were considered, in particular those based on the norms of international law. This allowed participants to more deeply realise the role of police in responding to and investigating cases of conflict-related sexual violence, discuss practical challenges faced by law enforcement agencies, and identify directions for further development of competencies necessary for preventive actions regarding sexual violence regardless of gender. Special attention the speaker paid to issues of protection of victims of sexual violence and approaches to their support in conditions of armed conflicts, especially from the side of communities.

Such events contribute to increasing the level of awareness of youth regarding global security challenges, formation of professional competencies in the sphere of countering violations of human rights and strengthening partnership relations of DSUIA with international organisations.
