The Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs continues implementing a project of barrier-free driver training for persons with disabilities.

Inesa began her journey to driving in Kharkiv. She gained her first driving skills at training площадках under the guidance of her husband, who has many years of driving experience. At the same time, she quickly realized that confident driving requires systematic training with professional instructors.

With the start of the full-scale invasion, she finally decided to master manual transmission. She enrolled in a local driving school, where she successfully passed the theoretical exam and began practical lessons. However, during the practical exam, the woman faced difficulties — due to the consequences of cerebral palsy and significant hearing loss, her first five attempts were unsuccessful.

Inesa turned for help to the Barrier-Free Driving School of DSUIA. According to her, the instructors quickly found an effective approach to training, taking into account individual needs and having unique experience working with people with disabilities.

“Already during the second practical lesson, I clearly understood which skills I lacked. An important role in the training was played by the conditions of a large city: roads with ascents and descents, heavy traffic, traffic jams — all of this provided valuable practical experience. I would also like to note the drivers in Dnipro: everyone is very patient and respectful toward learners on the road,” the graduate commented.

After successfully passing the practical exam, Inesa received a Category B driver’s license.

The implementation of the barrier-free training project at the DSUIA driving school contributes to the social adaptation of people with disabilities and creates conditions for increasing their independence and mobility.
