Mental health of future police officers: a meeting for the World Mental Health Day took place at DSUIA

The event was conducted by the department of psychological support of Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs.

Every year on October 10, World Mental Health Day is celebrated, established in 1992. On the occasion of this date, an open meeting with cadets of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd years was held at DSUIA in the format of “question — answer”.

The main goal of the event was to increase the psychological awareness of future law enforcement officers, to form a responsible attitude to their own mental health and to realize its significance in the professional activity of a police officer.

The head of the psychological unit Serhii Vyshnevskyi emphasized that psychological competence is an important component of the professional training of police officers, since their activity is often connected with stressful situations, increased emotional load and the necessity to quickly make responsible decisions.

The leading psychologist Hanna Mhlynets familiarized those present with the main directions of activity of the department of psychological support of the university. She spoke about the peculiarities of psychological work with participants of combat operations and the importance of professional support for people who have experienced traumatic experience.

Psychologists Vladyslav Bidniak and Alina Horodnychenko prepared a presentation on the topic “Mental health and its significance in the modern world”. The participants had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge about the importance of care for mental health, to realize the necessity of timely response to signs of emotional exhaustion and to discuss ways of preserving internal balance.

In the opinion of the organizers, mental health is an important component of the professional readiness of a future police officer. The ability to recognize one’s own emotions, overcome stress, maintain psychological resilience and timely seek help contributes not only to personal well-being, but also to the effective performance of official duties.
