At the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Hospital for War Veterans, another pétanque training session was held within the framework of sports and rehabilitation work implemented by veterans who train at DSUIA, with the support of the university’s management.
The event was attended by the Assistant Head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast for Veterans’ Affairs Ivan Zmievskyi and military veterans Viacheslav Panin and research fellow of the Research Laboratory of Preventive Activities and Sociological Research Vitalii Krysan. The event was also joined by the Leading Psychologist of the Psychological Support Unit of DSUIA Hanna Mhlynets and representatives of the Regional Service Centre of the Main Service Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts.
The sports event was organised for servicemen undergoing a recovery course at the hospital, based on the “peer-to-peer” principle. Its aim was to combine moderate physical activity with elements of psychological support and the development of social interaction. During the session, the participants practised throwing techniques and were introduced to the basics of pétanque strategy and tactics.
According to the defenders who are currently undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at the hospital, such sessions are an important component of the recovery process: they help maintain physical tone, improve communication and contribute to a gradual return to an active lifestyle.
Such activities are evidence that DSUIA regards support for veterans not as a one-off action, but as systematic and consistent work: those who defended the country should feel attention and support at every stage of their recovery.
