Meetings of scientific clubs at DDUVS with the participation of representatives of the veteran community

A meeting of the scientific club of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology took place at DDUVS. During the session, a number of актуальні scientific and practical issues were considered, combining modern challenges of criminal law, criminology, Ukraine’s European integration, and the preservation of historical memory.

The event was chaired by Senior Lecturer of the department, Police Major Svitlana Korohod. Within the topic “Criminal Law of Ukraine in the context of European values: rule of law, human rights, legality,” participants discussed the adaptation of Ukraine’s criminal legislation to European standards, the importance of democratic legal values, and the role of future lawyers in European integration processes.

The practical aspect of the topic was highlighted by Police Captain Bohdan Antropov, inspector of the KORD special police unit (rifle unit) of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk region. He emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s European development vector, the adaptation of the legal system to international standards, and the role of future lawyers in implementing the state’s European integration course.

Particular attention was paid to the topic “Criminal law and criminological aspects of the Chernobyl disaster: 40 years after the tragedy.” Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology, Police Lieutenant Colonel Anton Mariienko, delivered a report in which he historical and legal preconditions of the Chernobyl disaster, its consequences, and emphasized responsibility for violations of safety regulations, official negligence, and the need to prevent technogenic disasters through effective legal regulation and state control.

Cadets participated in the meeting, presenting their own scientific reports and analytical presentations, and joined discussions on current issues of criminal law regulation, criminological prevention, and legal education.

In addition, a joint meeting of scientific clubs was held on the topic “Institutional interaction of state authorities and civil society in the process of implementing the Veteran Policy Strategy until 2030.”

Representatives of the Department of Law of the Educational and Scientific Law Institute of the State University of Economics and Technology (Kryvyi Rih), led by Professor Mykola Veselov, Doctor of Law, and the Department of Administrative Law and Procedure of the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs, led by Associate Professor Karina Pisotska, PhD in Law, Police Senior Lieutenant, took part in the event.

Participants of the clubs presented their scientific research in the form of тез of reports on challenges and problematic aspects of implementing veteran policy, discussed ways to improve its implementation mechanisms, the role of state institutions and public organizations in the process of social adaptation of veterans, as well as prospects for developing partnership between authorities, the scientific community, and society.

Karina Pisotska emphasized that the Veteran Policy Strategy is a program document and a guideline for forming a comprehensive system of support for veterans. It should unite the efforts of the state, local self-government bodies, public organizations, and the scientific community. The Strategy is aimed at ensuring social integration, protection of rights, professional realization, and a dignified life for veterans.

According to the organizers, institutional interaction is of particular importance, as without coordinated actions between authorities and society it is impossible to achieve real results.

Such events contribute to the formation of comprehensive professional thinking among future lawyers, the combination of theoretical knowledge with practical needs of today, as well as strengthening institutional interaction between higher education institutions, state authorities, and the public sector.
