Forging the Cossack Spirit: Physical Training Classes Held at the DSUIA Police Academy

NEWS

The event was conducted by Mykola Nazarenko, Director of the DSUIA Police Academy Training Center.

Instead of traditional physical training exercises, future law enforcement officers tested their abilities in Ukrainian national sports, including “Lava na Lava” competitions (based on the traditions of the Ukrainian martial art “Spas”), cross wrestling, and belt wrestling.

“Lava na Lava” is the only group combat sport in the world in which two opposing sides engage in a fistfight, and victory belongs not to the strongest individual fighter but to the most united and coordinated team.

For the Police Academy trainees, this experience became an important practical lesson. The “lava” tradition teaches unity, comradeship, and coordinated teamwork—qualities that are essential for the future professional activities of police officers. The most active participants received commemorative certificates.

The additional training sessions demonstrated the trainees’ high level of motivation, their willingness to support one another, and their ability to work as a single, cohesive team.
