Students of the Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs joined the lecture “Fraud in the name of state institutions: how to recognize and protect yourself,” organized by the regional service center of the HSC of the MIA in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

The speakers of the event were the deputy head of the anti-cybercrime unit in the Dnipropetrovsk region of the Cyber Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine Andrii Averianov and a representative of the regional service center of the HSC of the MIA in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions Valentyna Stepanyets.
During the meeting, students were informed about current fraud schemes used by criminals to obtain citizens’ funds and personal data. The speakers paid special attention to cases where fraudsters impersonate representatives of state institutions by using fake websites, phone calls, chatbots, emails, and messages in messengers.

Separately, participants reviewed common fraud cases during the process of obtaining a driver’s license and purchasing vehicles online. Specialists explained how to verify information, recognize suspicious offers, and avoid risks when receiving public services.
Significant attention during the lecture was given to the phenomenon of social engineering – psychological methods of influence used by criminals to make people voluntarily disclose confidential information. Through specific examples, students learned how to recognize signs of fraud, protect their financial and personal data, and how to act if a person has already become a victim of scammers.

The event was held with the aim of developing safe behavior skills when using payment services and receiving public services. Such meetings contribute to increasing the level of digital literacy among young people, developing critical thinking, and forming practical skills to counter modern cyber threats.
