DSUIA joined the Interregional Conference on counteraction to conflict-related sexual violence

In Dnipro, the Interregional Coordination Conference “Regional Resilience: exchange of experience in counteracting conflict-related sexual violence and comprehensive support of victims” took place.

Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs at the event was represented by the assistant to the rector on gender issues, doctor of legal sciences, professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine Larysa Nalyvaiko.

The event was organized on the initiative of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration in cooperation with the Office of the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy, organizations of victims, in partnership with UN Women, UNDP and the United Nations Population Fund within the framework of the Joint Program on prevention and response to conflict-related sexual violence in Ukraine, which is financed by the European Union, as well as with the financial support of the governments of Austria, Denmark, Norway, Poland, Finland, France, Sweden and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The deputy head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration – head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Iryna Hrytsai also took part in the organization.

Representatives of regional military administrations, territorial communities, law enforcement bodies from Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Luhansk, Chernihiv and Kyiv regions, the city of Kyiv, central executive bodies, public organizations, organizations of victims, international organizations and experts took part in the conference.

With welcoming words to the participants addressed the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Vsevolod Chentsov; the First Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine Liudmyla Shemelynets; the Coordinator of the UN system in Ukraine and Humanitarian Coordinator Matthias Schmale and the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration – head of the regional military administration, police general of the third rank Oleksandr Hanzha.

The conference is dedicated to strengthening interregional interaction in the sphere of prevention and counteraction to conflict-related sexual violence, as well as the development of the system of support for victims at the national, regional and local levels. The goal of the event was the discussion of ways and instruments of localization of state policy in this sphere at the level of regions and territorial communities, the development of joint recommendations, the exchange of practical experience and the strengthening of interdepartmental interaction.

With a special speech “Implementation of state policy in the sphere of counteraction and response to CRSV” spoke the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy Kateryna Levchenko. A separate special speech on the localization of the “Women, Peace, Security” Agenda through the prism of conflict-related sexual violence was presented by the co-founder and director for strategic development of the Ukrainian Women’s Fund Nataliia Karbovska.

During the conference, Larysa Nalyvaiko moderated the activity of the discussion group on the topic of interdepartmental coordination. The work of the group and the speeches of the speakers concerned the issues of coordination of state bodies, local self-government bodies, law enforcement bodies, social, medical services, public and international organizations in the system of response to CRSV, the role of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration and territorial communities in the localization of state policy and the implementation of the tasks of the Implementation Plan, regional mechanisms of response to CRSV, etc.

The participation of representatives of DSUIA in such events contributes to the dissemination of modern approaches to counteracting conflict-related sexual violence and the strengthening of interdepartmental interaction in this sphere.
