At DSUIA, the All-Ukrainian scientific-practical conference “Language and Law” took place

The event was organized by the department of language training of Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs.

Scientists, judges, lawyers, lecturers, young researchers, students and cadets — representatives of institutions of higher education, scientific institutions and educational organizations from different regions of Ukraine, as well as Poland, Jordan and Israel took part in the event. The participants were united by a common goal — strengthening legal culture and establishing the authority of the Ukrainian language in the professional environment.

The conference was opened by the head of the department of organization of scientific activity of DSUIA Denys Proshyn. He noted that the comprehensive agenda of the event allowed creatively combining the potential of a wide circle of domestic researchers in the analysis of problems of linguistics, law-making activity, information security and the culture of mass communications.

Also, those present were greeted by the head of the department of language training of DSUIA, doctor of philological sciences, professor Iryna Tsarova.

Associate professor of the department of civil law of the faculty of law of the University of the Middle East (Amman, Jordan) Hisham Jadallah Mansour Shahateh in video format made a report on the topic “Problems of translating civil-law terminology: a comparative study of the Jordanian and Ukrainian legal systems”.

In addition, pupils of the Dnipro Scientific-Ukrainian-American Lyceum at the Dnipro City Council Mykhailo Plakhotin, Yelyzaveta Shevchenko and Kateryna Tsarova, as well as applicants of higher education of institutions of higher education of the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine took part in the event.

The participants discussed political-legal innovations in the modern Ukrainian language and the peculiarities of their reproduction in English, the harmonization of the legal terminology of Ukraine with the ACQUIS of the EU in the context of European integration, legal terminology in the act writing of Right-Bank Ukraine of the 16th–17th centuries: between legal norm and language practice, etc.

During the sectional speeches, the following topics were discussed:

● “Language of law: modern approaches to understanding and peculiarities of functioning under conditions of war;

● “Feminatives in the professional speech of law enforcement officers: modern trends and language norms”;

● “Reproduction of law enforcement in the Ukrainian translation of legal texts: functional criterion for choosing a counterpart”;

● “Implementation of special pre-trial investigation and court proceedings (in absentia): problems of ensuring the right to defense and international standards” and others.

Such events give the opportunity to discuss current issues of the development of the Ukrainian legal language, exchange scientific and practical developments, improve the professional speech of lawyers and contribute to strengthening the legal culture and language competence of future specialists.
