Post-Service Reintegration and Support for Ukraine’s Defenders: DSUIA Cadets Meet with Veterans

NEWS

The event brought together Oleksandr Hryshchuk, the Rector’s Assistant for Veterans’ Affairs, veteran Yurii Zhurba, and second-year cadets from the Faculty for Training Specialists for the Criminal Police Units of the National Police of Ukraine.

During the meeting, the speakers discussed veterans’ experiences, overcoming life’s challenges and opportunities for the social reintegration of defenders returning from military service. In particular, the cadets learned about the role of sports in a comprehensive veteran rehabilitation system, as Yurii Zhurba is an active member of adaptive basketball and pétanque teams.

Another key topic was the patriotic education of young people, fostering respect for Ukraine’s defenders, both men and women, and supporting those who have dedicated themselves to defending the country. The participants also discussed the importance of the Ukrainian language as an integral part of national identity.

The meeting helped deepen the cadets’ understanding of veterans’ needs and the challenges they may face when returning to civilian life. For future law enforcement officers, understanding veterans’ experiences is an important foundation for developing a professional culture based on respect, responsibility and attentive, considerate treatment of members of the public.
