Developing Psychological Resilience: DSUIA Holds Practical Session for Cadets

NEWS

Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs held a practical session for third-year cadets of the Faculty for Training Specialists for Pre-Trial Investigation Bodies of the National Police of Ukraine. The session focused on “Resilience: Maintaining and Strengthening Mental Health Under Constant Stress.”

The session was conducted by Alina Horodnychenko, a psychologist with the Psychological Support Unit of the DSUIA Human Resources Department.

The participants explored the concept of resilience as a person’s ability to adapt to challenging circumstances, cope with the effects of stress, and restore their inner resources. Particular attention was paid to the importance of psychological resilience in police work, which involves a high level of responsibility, rapid decision-making, and interaction with members of the public in crisis situations.

The practical part focused on developing self-awareness and emotional self-regulation skills. The cadets learned to recognise their individual responses to stress, identify signs of psychological overload, assess their own resources, and apply techniques to restore emotional balance.

The participants also discussed how their psychological and emotional state affects the quality of their work, their ability to make well-considered decisions, and their effectiveness as team members. Emphasis was placed on preventing professional burnout, seeking psychological support in a timely manner, and systematically developing stress management skills.

Such sessions help strengthen future law enforcement officers’ psychological readiness for professional challenges and encourage a responsible approach to maintaining their own mental health.
