DSUIA Explores the Practical Significance of Criminal Analysis

NEWS

First- and second-year students of the Faculty for Training Specialists for National Police Criminal Police Units deepened their understanding of how criminal analysis units operate and the role they play in combating crime.

The optional training session was organized by the Faculty’s Department of Operational Investigative Activities. Participants focused on the structure of criminal analysis units, their main areas of activity and the specific features of how individual departments and sectors are organized and operate.

During the session, cadets learned about the day-to-day work of criminal analysts. In particular, they explored how information on criminal offenses is processed, how data is organized and systematized, how links between individual events and facts are established, and how patterns relevant to understanding the nature and characteristics of criminal activity are identified.

Special attention was paid to the practical value of analytical work for criminal police units. The speakers emphasized that criminal analysis helps consolidate and interpret information on crime trends, identify potential links between offenses, detect characteristic methods of committing crimes and establish an information base to support further law enforcement activities.

The session also addressed cooperation between criminal analysis units and other services of the National Police of Ukraine. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of such cooperation under martial law, when law enforcement agencies face additional challenges in maintaining public safety and order and documenting criminal offenses related to Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.

Such optional training sessions are an important component of the professional education of future police officers. They deepen specialized knowledge, broaden students’ understanding of the practical responsibilities of law enforcement agencies, and help develop the competencies required for future service within the National Police of Ukraine.
