NEWS, Sport for military veterans

The athletes took part in training camps and the All-Ukrainian competitions “Cup of Ukraine in Petanque among veterans of the war of the Eastern region”. The event brought together 29 teams and more than 100 participants from different regions of Ukraine – Dnipro, Lviv, Irpin, Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih and other cities.

For two days, veterans competed in the tournament, having previously joined the training camp of the All-Ukrainian Veterans Petanque League. The program of the event included training, master classes, team interaction and preparation for future regional and all-Ukrainian starts.

The Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs was represented at the competitions by Oleksandr Hryshchuk, Yevhen Ratkov and Ihor Krasnoshlyk. Thanks to their accuracy, strategic thinking and systematic preparation under the guidance of coaches, they performed successfully in the tournament and reached the 1/8 finals.

Petanque today is gaining more and more popularity as one of the areas of adaptive sports for veterans. This game does not require special physical training, while contributing to psychological recovery, development of concentration, coordination and team interaction. That is why petanque is increasingly becoming a platform for rehabilitation, communication and social adaptation of military personnel after returning to civilian life.

The organizers emphasize: such initiatives are not only sporting events, but also an important component of supporting veterans, forming a veteran community and creating new opportunities for active recovery through sports.
