As part of psychological training and the implementation of the “Psychological Practices Point” project, the Psychological Support Unit continues its work with trainees of the Police Academy’s Center for Special and Professional Training. The training focuses on developing skills in providing psychological first aid and crisis intervention.
The training was moderated by Vladyslav Bidniak, a university psychologist. During the session, the trainees practiced crisis intervention algorithms for situations involving hysteria, stupor, nervous trembling and agitation, panic attacks, aggression, acute stress reactions and other critical conditions. The theoretical material was reinforced with relevant video materials provided by colleagues from the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, and the Psychological Service of the Portuguese Gendarmerie.
Particular attention was paid to adapting the training material to the practical responsibilities of educational safety officers. During the discussion, university psychologists and future officers examined the specific aspects of interacting with minors in crisis situations, analyzed potential challenges and considered effective response strategies. The participants showed strong personal engagement and actively asked follow-up questions.
The final stage of the training involved simulating typical service-related situations. This allowed the trainees to practice crisis intervention algorithms in conditions as close as possible to those they may encounter in their professional duties.
This training format not only helped participants acquire a solid theoretical foundation but also enabled them to develop practical skills in providing psychological first aid. The knowledge and skills gained will serve as a reliable foundation for the future work of educational safety officers, strengthening their professional confidence and psychological readiness to respond effectively to unpredictable situations.
