At Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs, a historical lecture dedicated to Ukrainian-Polish historical relations took place.
The meeting was opened by the vice-rector of DSUIA, police colonel Ihor Kovalov. The lecture was conducted by the cornet of the 1st corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov”, lieutenant colonel Ivan Patryliak (Paitash), who presented the thematic presentation “Volyn tragedy: a sober view”.
Within the framework of the event, the history of relations between the Ukrainian and Polish peoples, periods of joint stay within the composition of the same states, the struggle for the restoration of their own statehood and the formation of different approaches to the determination of state borders were considered. Separately, attention was focused on the events of the first half of the 20th century and the Polish-Ukrainian confrontation of 1919–1921.
A significant part of the presentation is devoted to the situation of the Ukrainian population in interwar Poland. Separate thematic blocks concerned the events of 1938–1939, the beginning of the Second World War, the German occupation and the aggravation of the Ukrainian-Polish interethnic conflict in 1943–1944. The topic of the armed confrontation between Ukrainian and Polish formations of that period was also discussed.
In addition, the cadets were told about the post-war deportations of the Ukrainian population from Zakerzonia, the resettlement of 1944–1946, the operation “Vistula” of 1947, etc.
Such a format of meetings contributes to the deepening of historical knowledge, the development of critical thinking and the formation in future law enforcement officers of the ability to work with historical sources and analyze complex socio-political processes.
