A practical elective session on providing first aid in emergency situations was held for first-year cadets of the Faculty for Training Specialists for Pre-Trial Investigation Bodies of the National Police of Ukraine.
The session was conducted by Vitalii Radchenko, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Criminalistics and First Aid Training and a combat veteran. He introduced the cadets to the sequence of the initial assessment, methods of evaluating a person’s condition and procedures for providing assistance before medical professionals arrive.
Particular attention was paid to practical skills, including checking the pulse, identifying signs of life-threatening bleeding, correctly applying tourniquets and controlling bleeding from the extremities.
The instructor emphasized the importance of clear and consistent actions in situations where every second can count. For future law enforcement officers, these skills are of direct practical importance, as they may be the first to encounter a person in need of emergency assistance while on duty.
Regularly improving these skills under the guidance of professionals with relevant professional and combat experience helps prepare future police officers to act effectively under stress, provide timely assistance to injured people and save lives.
