The event “Lesson of Babyn Yar: legal qualification of genocide and prevention of crimes against humanity” was conducted by the deputy director of the Educational and Research Institute of Law and Innovative Education of DSUIA Iryna Dmytryshyn.
During the intensive, the participants considered the tragedy of Babyn Yar through the prism of international criminal law and the professional ethics of law enforcement officers.
Special attention was paid to drawing parallels with modernity: analyzing history, the speakers and participants drew a clear line from the events of that time to the current war crimes of the aggressor — mass burials in Izium, torture chambers in Bucha and Lyman.
The participants of the event discussed the importance of qualitative documentation of crimes against the civilian population, the principles of the inadmissibility of executing criminal orders, as well as the role of law enforcement officers in protecting human rights and preserving memory for the sake of justice.
