“Synergy of technologies, intellect and law”: lecture for cadets of DSUIA

Roman Butko, head of the Department of Criminal Analysis of the National Police of Ukraine, police general of the third rank, met with cadets of the 1st year of the faculty of training specialists for units of criminal police of the National Police of Ukraine, who will study under the specialization “Criminal Analysis” and spoke about the role of analytical activity and modern technologies in counteracting crime.

The person temporarily performing the duties of the rector of DSUIA Ihor Mahdalina addressed those present with a welcoming speech.

During the meeting, Roman Butko familiarized the cadets with the directions of work of the Department of Criminal Analysis and the peculiarities of using analytical tools in the activity of the National Police of Ukraine.

Special attention was paid to the use of national and international information resources, OSINT and GEO-OSINT technologies, media monitoring, as well as strategic, tactical and operational analysis.

On the examples of the practical application of technologies, Roman Butko demonstrated the possibilities of analyzing large volumes of video materials, the use of video surveillance systems and digital tools for establishing the circumstances of events. In particular, the processing of video data from surveillance cameras in the Chornobyl exclusion zone, the use of OSINT for analyzing the circumstances of the missile strike on the “Okhmatdyt” children’s hospital, etc. were considered.

Such meetings contribute to the expansion of the professional worldview of future law enforcement officers, the deepening of knowledge about modern methods of counteracting crime and the awareness of the role of criminal analysis in the activity of the National Police of Ukraine.
