Combating Bullying: “Police Academy” Trainees of DSUIA Study Response Protocols

A thematic session for trainees of Group 2/26 was conducted by Kateryna Hunko, an inquiry officer of the Inquiry Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Dnipropetrovsk region, Police Senior Lieutenant.

During the meeting, the trainees examined in detail the legal framework for preventing and combating bullying. They discussed the definition of bullying, its main forms, and circumstances that may indicate that bullying is taking place. Particular attention was paid to situations involving children as participants or victims.

The practical part of the session focused on responding directly to cases of bullying. Together with the speaker, the trainees analyzed simulated situations. They worked through the sequence of actions a police officer should take after receiving information about bullying, identified the specifics of interacting with a child who may have been affected, as well as with parents, teachers, and other participants in the educational process. Considerable attention was also paid to professional communication.

According to the organizers, dealing with bullying cases requires police officers not only to know the law, but also to be able to identify a problem in a timely manner, act within their powers, communicate properly with children, and ensure adequate protection of their rights. Therefore, involving the practical experience of serving officers helps future law enforcement professionals prepare for such challenges in their professional activities.

The session was conducted in accordance with safety requirements.
